INNOVATIVE DESIGN - Cyclonic Structures

Airey Taylor Consulting has extensive experience in the design of high-risk structures for cyclonic wind loading areas. The structures listed (below) within Western Australia and the Northern Territory have withstood high cyclonic winds and major ancillary damage where others have been demolished or suffered serious damage.

North West Shelf LNG Project: Airey Taylor Consulting was team leader for a group of design engineers utilising heavy industrial design and documentation for the construction of a series of steel enclosures housing compressors and generators within a high cyclonic area of Western Australia.

Territorian Hotel - Darwin: This structure is an outstanding example of successful cyclonic structural design, having withstood the ravages of cyclone Tracy in 1974 with minor damage only.

Esplanade Atrium Hotel - Darwin.
Architects Parry & Rosenthal engaged Airey Taylor Consulting to design the structural component of this 3 star, 140 room atrium hotel which was opened in 1988.

Constructed of load bearing concrete block walls with insitu concrete floor slabs, this hotel has been designed to withstand cyclonic wind loadings and high temperatures, with the large atrium area providing comfortable climatic relief from both heat and rain during the wet season. This hotel has maintained a highly successful occupancy rate, and high patronage of food and beverage areas.

Highway Motel - Port Hedland.

Numerous Housing Projects in the North West: for Homeswest and private developers at Karratha, Pannawonica, Shay Gap, Darwin, Dampier and Broome. This also includes a rammed earth quadruplex development in Roebourne for the W.A. Aboriginal Housing Development and numerous houses for the Tkalka Boorda Community in Port Hedland.
