INNOVATIVE DESIGN - Foundation Remediation System

Peter Airey, Managing Director of Airey Taylor Consulting pioneered this system of remediation of serious cracking and damage to buildings which have been constructed with inadequate foundations on clay based soils.

In December 1997 Peter delivered a technical paper to Concrete Institute of Australia at the Sheraton Hotel. The system was awarded a National Certificate of Recognition in the 1998 ACEA Awards for Excellence in Sydney.

Since 1995, Airey Taylor Consulting has continued to develop an advanced engineering Foundation Remediation System (FRS) which retrospectively addresses repeated and ongoing damage occurring to buildings which have been initially constructed with inadequate footings on clay based soils. The system is unique to Airey Taylor Consulting and represents a first class example of the interaction of the structural and geotechnical disciplines of engineering to achieve a technically sound, highly cost effective, socially desirable solution.

Lukeis Residence - In 1995, Airey Taylor Consulting was approached by the client to address the problem of extensive annual cracking occurring to his rental house property in Maddington, Western Australia. The house was neither able to be let nor sold, except at a dramatic loss, because of serious cracking in the walls and cornices (top left). Alternative advice previously received by the client had recommended very expensive solutions.

Following geotechnical and structural research and development of the remediation system by Airey Taylor Consulting, the Client was guided by the firm in the implementation and monitoring of the process. The house was able to be fully restored to good aesthetic condition (left) and sold at a reasonable price.

Other Projects: 24 houses in Geraldton, Hospital Building in Kondinin, and numerous houses in metropolitan Perth.
