INNOVATIVE DESIGN - Rammed Earth Walling System

This system was pioneered by Airey Taylor Consulting and Stephen Dobson of Ramtec Pty Ltd in Darwin in 1976. The technology has now achieved community acceptance and has been used for buildings ranging from churches to industrial facilities, in seismic and high wind cyclonic zones.

 

Dobson House, Cottesloe: This multi-award winning project, built in 1982, was Perth’s first rammed earth house, with advanced use of post-tensioned, cement stablised rammed earth construction. 

Home of Year Award, 1982. Winner of Innovation Award to Ramtec Pty Ltd. Winner of Individual Designed Homes (to $80,000) Group 1. Winner of the James Hardie Innovation Award.

Transperth Palmyra Bus Depot: Winner of the Architectural Bronze Medal Award, George Temple Poole Trophy, RAIA Architectural Design Award and AISC Architectural Steel Design Award 1995.

Airey Taylor Consulting were specialist consultants for the cement stabilised earth walls system which was utilised on this project.
