WATER RESOURCES - Waste Water Treatment

Airey Taylor Consulting is associated with Montgomery Watson Australia Pty Ltd for some water resources and environmental engineering projects. Brian Stone who is a Senior Consultant with Montgomery Watson is based in Perth at our West Perth office. Montgomery Watson is a world leader in water and wastewater engineering, having designed over 200 major plants world-wide, and offer program management services for metropolitan wastewater systems. Montgomery Watson also offer software programs and support services for hydraulic networks analysis (H20NET) plus a range of services related to water quality analyses, hazardous waste remediation and environmental issues.

The Anstey Hill Water Treatment Plant (right) was designed by Montgomery Watson. The plant is located 20km north east of Adelaide, South Australia and has a capacity of 315 ML/d.

The Anstey Hill Water Treatment Plant project won an Institution of Engineers Australia award, due in part to the strong integration of architectural aesthetics with functional civil engineering design.

Neerabup Stage 1 Water Treatment Plant.

In association with Montgomery Waston (Australia) Pty Ltd, Airey Taylor Consulting prepared alternative designs for Water Corporation (WA) for the Neerabup Water Treatment Plant.

The alternative design featured a 120ML/d filtration plant and included clarifiers, six flow split filters, back wash system (including wash water recovery) chemical feeding system and a treated water pumping station. The alternative design features were acceptable to the Water Corporation but the proposal was not successful. The design did however confirm that Montgomery Watson Australia and Airey Taylor Consulting can produce a viable water treatment plant design under limited time restrictions.

Bibra Lake Main Sewer, Hydraulic Model: Airey Taylor Consulting prepared a detailed analysis of flow monitoring data and calibration of the Bibra Lake and Spearwood Main Sewers for the Water Corporation using an Extran Hydraulic Computer modeling package. The sewer system, consisting of sewer pipes of up to 2.25m. in diameter, was modeled to determine the impact on flow rates, retention time and storage characteristics of a multi-pressure mains discharge into a twenty kilometre long sewer system.

Mount Tom Price Town and Mines Water Supply: Airey Taylor Consulting fully designed the water supply system for this North-West company town and mine.

WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Strong environmental awareness within Airey Taylor Consulting has encouraged the incorporation of environmental and ecological features into civil engineering design wherever possible. In water resource management projects, special attention is paid to design aspects such as drainage systems to enhance the environment whilst minimising construction costs. This expertise has led to the commissioning of Airey Taylor Consulting for the following projects:

Westonbirt Arboretum – Bridgetown (left): This unique development, currently under construction, offers joint ownership of 135 hectares of parklands, exotic trees and shrubs, native flora and fauna reserves, within an integrated country village setting and facilities.

Kwinana Freeway Extension: This section of freeway between Forrest Road and Thomas Road, Spearwood, incorporated design features like storm water drainage systems and nutrient stripping basins. This design system has also been used in the creation of artificial wetlands, and has special significance in environmentally sensitive projects where replenishment of existing wetlands is a major priority.
